CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Welcome Back MCC Employees and Students!
Even though classes starts back for MCC students on Saturday, January 12th, many MCC employees are starting to head back to campus today. 

Construction Underway
Be aware that construction is going on in the Kirk Student Center and many of the paths are blocked with barricade signs.  Please note as you attempt to reach your destination as your normal route may have changed.


Student Services @ the Library
Many of your highly-needed services - financial aid, registration, advising, Veterans Affairs, testing center - have been currently moved to the library at this time for "one-stop shopping".



CENTER FOR SERVICE-LEARNING ANNOUNCEMENTS 

Hours of Operation
Look forward to the Center for Service-Learning returning to the normal hours of 8-7pm Monday-Thursday and 8-5pm on Friday at the Southern and Dobson Campus. 

Independent Module
Students can register for Spring 2013 open entry/open exit Independent Module service-learning classes.  This is a required component to graduate with Honors from Mesa Community College and you can earn 1-credit for 50 hours of service.  To learn more, visit our website on Independent Module.

In-Course Module
Below are the Orientation Dates for those doing an In-Course Module course, where there is a service-learning component built-in to their class:
  • January 16th at 8:00am, 10:00am & 11:00am
  • January 17th at 9:00am, 10:30am, 12:00pm, and 1:30pm
  • January 22nd at 7:10pm
  • January 23rd at 5:00pm
Orientations will be held in the Kiva Room (Lower Level of the Kirk Student Center).  Please plan to attend an orientation for your course.

Community Engagement Expo
Looking to find a community partner to do your service at?  Want to learn more about what our representative service-sites have to offer?  This is a great place for students to find a service-learning placement. We hope instructors bring their class and/or encourage students to attend.

PHI THETA KAPPA ANNOUNCEMENTS

Join Phi Theta Kappa
January 14th is the first day to join MCC's national Honor Society for the semester.  Three qualifications are needed to join:
  1. Currently enrolled in at least 1 credit hour at Mesa Community College
  2. Have completed 12 credit hours of course work over 100-level at a Maricopa Community College location (i.e. MCC) 
  3. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher


Mentor Nomination Form
Please make sure to nominate a mentor when you join Phi Theta Kappa.  This is your chance to recognize an MCC employee who made a difference to your academic career.

Fishpalooza Fridays

There are so many exciting endeavors to look forward to this coming Spring 2013 semester at Mesa Community College and with the Center for Service-Learning.  We look forward to using this "Civic Engagement Connections" blog to share announcements.
